Bounce
An email the receiving server refuses: permanently for a bad address, temporarily for a full mailbox. Too many hurt the sending domain.
A bounce is an email the receiving server refuses. A hard bounce is permanent, typically an address that doesn’t exist; a soft bounce is temporary, such as a full mailbox. Writing to bad addresses tells mailbox providers that a list wasn’t kept well, so a hard-bounced address should never be tried again. Coldlyne puts it on the suppression list and pauses a mailbox if refused addresses climb.
